Matt Moffett

Long overdue pro model out now on SMALL BEATING. I've been waiting for this one for a while. Shaped and perfected by Professor Schmitt and Moffett. As always, all Small Beating boards are pressed at PS Stix and hand silk screened, not cooked to death while being applied with a heat transfer. Dimensions: 8.38 x 32.5, 14.25 wheelbase. Huge nose and tail.

The Kinks "Rosemary Rose"

This was recorded around the time of "The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society" LP but went unreleased until the US-only album "The Great Kinks Lost Album" in 1973. This album was quickly deleted and this song was unavailable until 1998's expanded "The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society" CD. Do yourself a favor and get a hold of the 3-CD deluxe version of the greatest album ever made.

Your 15 minutes are up.

Usually, a skateboard company collab is something that is to be avoided as if it is on fire. Here's one of the few I actually like. When you have Burton's $ behind you can get the goods from the real deal, not have to stoop to some phony "homage" or "tribute" a/k/a rip off or even worse, a collab with a hack like Damien Hirst!. Andy Warhol's 5 iconic pop art graphics and 5 images from 'his infamous "Death & Disaster" series. Not really feeling the pro top graphic though. These would work better as team graphics. AWS had the good sense to not make these heat transfers! That would be a slap in the face to the silkscreen master. More info here.

The Beaver Patrol "E.S.P." 1967

"Borrowing" VERY heavily from The Pretty Things' "L.S.D". I actually prefer this to the Pretties.

Parts!

Best clip I've seen in a while. Al Partanen destroying everything in his path. Top of the heap is the b/s tailslide over the light and deathbox. Hot! This from the 2nd disc of the deluxe version of the "Hesh Law" DVD.

Blind Willie Johnson "John The Revelator" 1930

We'll end the week with one of the most unforgettable voices ever, Blind Willie Johnson. This song has been covered (and butchered) by The White Stripes, Beck etc. This is the definitive version. His first wife, Willie B. Harris, is doing those amazing backing vocals.

Reverend Gary Davis "I Belong To The Band, Hallelujah"

Fellow native South Carolinian, the Reverend Gary Davis. The finger picking maestro somehow played these intricate runs using only his thumb and index finger.

Skip James Cypress Grove Blues 1931

Over the holidays I finally got around to messing with open D minor tuning so I could learn some Skip James tunes. What an eye opener.
